The Season of Re-birth

Wela died on Good Friday.

Outside the snow melted

the ground, ripe for new beginnings

birds sing their welcome song

in the garden, bulbs bloom

daffodils burst forth

stems stretch towards the sun

an invitation to rise again

Inside we pray, a novena

for holy resurrection

but wela isn’t Jesus

Still, life goes on

without our loved one

and I wonder the irony

of dying in the season of rebirth.
