Overcoming the Identity Crisis: Rediscovering Your True Self

Every week, I have the privilege of leading a Bible study that has, for the last six weeks, been focusing on reclaiming our identity in Christ. This is a topic close to my heart, not just as a Christian, but as a life coach who regularly sees clients wrestling with issues of self-esteem, confidence, and worthiness. We live in a society that’s driven by materialism and ego, where messages are constantly thrown at us telling us that our value comes from success, wealth, looks, and social standing. We’re pushed to measure ourselves by external achievements, and this relentless pressure can leave us feeling inadequate, lost, and detached from our true selves in Christ.

I’ve seen too many people struggle with understanding their inherent worth because they’ve lost sight of not just who they are, but whose they are. This distorted self-view has made it difficult for them to truly know themselves. It’s an identity crisis that’s not new; it’s been around since biblical times. It’s rooted in forgetting who we truly are in God.

In the Bible, we see people wrestle with their identity in many forms. Whether it was the Israelites forgetting they were God’s chosen people, or individuals like Moses and Gideon doubting their worth and calling, the struggle was real then just as it is now.
